The alumni-chapter road-trip business, explained
Penn State has one of the largest and most active alumni communities in the country — and the Philadelphia region houses more Penn State alumni chapters than any single metro outside State College itself. Every fall Saturday, alumni chapter watch parties spill out into fan-bus charters heading to Big Ten road games. Two venues are true day trips from the Philly suburbs: SHI Stadium at Rutgers (2.5 hrs up the NJ Turnpike, our most-booked Penn State away game) and SECU Stadium in College Park MD (about 3 hours south). Everything else — Ohio Stadium, Michigan Stadium, Camp Randall, Kinnick, and the new West Coast additions (UCLA, USC) — requires an overnight coach package or a fly-in. Penn State's home White Out weekends are famous, but the ALUMNI travel volume peaks on road weekends because that's when Philly-based Lions want to make the trip together.

The 2026 Blue-White spring game date has not yet been officially announced; we track the release and offer round-trip White Out shuttles from Philly when Penn State drops the schedule.
2026 marquee road-trip windows
- Friday, Oct 2 at Northwestern — unusual Friday-night Big Ten window in Evanston. Fly-in package (ORD-to-Ryan Field ground shuttle) is the clean call; short-hop trip for a 15-25 person alumni chapter.
- Saturday, Oct 17 at Michigan (Big House) — the bucket-list Big Ten road trip. 8.5-hour drive means we build this as a 2-night overnight (Friday depart, Saturday game, Sunday return) with hotel block in Ann Arbor. Book 3-4 months out.
- Saturday, Nov 7 at Washington (Seattle) — the West Coast Big Ten trip that gets skipped by most fans. 3-day fly-in package, SEA airport ground shuttle to Husky Stadium. Great excuse for a coordinated alumni weekend.
- Saturday, Nov 28 at Maryland — Thanksgiving-weekend day trip, one of our highest-volume Penn State charter days. Motor coach or party bus from Philly, tailgate at College Park, back same night. Alumni chapters routinely book 2-3 coaches for this game.
Which vehicle for your fan-bus trip
Right-sized fleet for every Nittany Lions away-game group configuration:

40-56 Passenger Motor Coach
The workhorse for Penn State alumni chapter road trips. Reclining seats, restroom, under-coach for tailgate gear and blue-and-white gear, Wi-Fi for pre-game analysis. Runs the Philly-to-Rutgers, Philly-to-Maryland, or Philly-to-Columbus overnight trip standard configuration.

24-32 Passenger Mini-Coach
Right-sized for a smaller alumni chapter or a group of families combining a Big Ten away weekend with a college visit for high-school kids. Overhead storage, individual reclining seats, USB charging.

20-40 Passenger Party Bus
For the tailgate-focused fan group hitting Rutgers or Maryland — the party bus IS the tailgate rig. Cooler bars, LED lighting, premium sound. Ideal for a 20-25 person alumni group who want the tailgate atmosphere from the moment we leave Philly.

10-14 Passenger Sprinter Van
VIP transport for a smaller executive alumni group, a season-ticket-holder foursome plus spouses, or a corporate hospitality box party at a Big Ten stadium. Mercedes Sprinter with high-back leather captain's chairs and USB at every seat.
Day-trip vs overnight — when does each make sense?
The rule of thumb: if the away venue is within a 3-hour one-way drive, we run it as a day trip. Pickup 3-4 hours before kickoff/tip-off, tailgate on-site, game, then curbside post-game pickup and back to Philly by midnight. Comfortable in a motor coach or mini-coach; a party bus works too for a shorter distance.
Beyond 3 hours one-way, we typically build an overnight package: coach leaves Philly on Friday, hotel block at the destination Friday night, tailgate + game Saturday, hotel Saturday night, back to Philly Sunday. This is the standard for Big Ten road trips (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin), long CAA trips (William & Mary, Northeastern), and any playoff/bowl-game destination. For anything 8+ hours or across the country, we shift to a fly-in configuration — your group flies commercial and we coordinate with partner operators at the destination airport for airport-to-stadium ground shuttle and back.
Tailgate + game-day flow
Pickup: 3-4 hours before kickoff/tip-off for a full tailgate window. For a 1pm start, that's typically 8:30-9:00am from Philly. Your group boards the coach with tailgate gear, coolers, food, portable grills; we load everything into the under-coach storage.
On the road: reclining seats, restroom, Wi-Fi, USB charging at every seat, premium sound if you booked a party bus. Your driver has the route, the lot assignment, and the gate number for the visiting-team bus lot.
At the venue: we drop your group at the tailgate lot, park in the designated bus zone, and your chauffeur stays with the vehicle in the driver lounge or the bus lot. The tailgate spread sets up on the party bus itself (perimeter seating doubles as bench space) or on the pavement next to the coach.
Post-game: chauffeur is staged at the designated curbside pickup zone before your group even reaches the gate — they've tracked the final seconds via app and are ready. Post-game crowd flow typically adds 15-30 minutes to the total pickup window.
Alumni chapter partnerships & recurring bookings
The biggest recurring customer segment for Nittany Lions away-game charters is alumni chapters. If your Philadelphia-area Nittany Lions alumni chapter books 3+ road games per season, we set up a season-long partnership: locked-in per-trip pricing (discounted vs one-off booking), dedicated coach and driver who know your pickup logistics, single point-of-contact at our dispatch, and priority booking for the marquee games (rivalry weekends, playoff/bowl trips, tournament weeks) that fill up early.
Common alumni chapter configurations: 40-56 passenger motor coach for the full-chapter trip, mini-coach for smaller chapters or officers-only games, party bus for a Big 6 in-city rivalry, Sprinter for a suite-level or hospitality-level executive trip. Ask about our chapter-partner pricing when you inquire — we build the season contract before the schedule drops.

Booking timeline
Book by mid-June for the September-November Big Ten schedule; White Out or Ohio State weekends fill our fleet 3-4 months out. Playoff / tournament / bowl-game trips are booked on 24-72 hour turnarounds after the seeding or matchup is announced — the earlier you book after the announcement, the better your seat price and hotel-block availability.
The general rule: rivalry-week and playoff games fill our fleet 3-4 months out; regular-season road games need 2-3 weeks minimum; last-minute fly-in trips can happen with 5-7 days notice depending on the destination airport partner availability.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you'd want to know before you book.
What's the most-booked Penn State away game from Philly?+
Rutgers at SHI Stadium — 2.5 hours up the NJ Turnpike, it's the perfect day-trip away game. Alumni chapters routinely book 2-3 motor coaches for that trip. Second most-booked: Maryland at SECU Stadium.
Can you do a fly-in for Ohio State or Michigan trips?+
Yes. For the Big Ten's longer road trips (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, USC, UCLA), we coordinate with partner operators at the destination airport so your group flies commercial and steps onto the coach for the drive to the stadium. Cleanest option for chapter road trips of 15-30 people.
Do you offer alumni chapter season packages?+
Yes — this is a core part of our fall business. Contract for 3+ Penn State away games and we lock in per-trip discounted pricing, dedicated coach, and a driver who knows your chapter's pickup logistics.
What's the driver arrangement for overnight trips?+
For overnight trips beyond 10 hours drive time, we assign two drivers (DOT hours-of-service compliance) or plan a mid-route driver swap. Your group doesn't see any of the logistics — the coach shows up on time, the timing works, and everyone gets home safe.
Can we book a party bus instead of a motor coach?+
For day trips (Rutgers, Maryland), yes — a 25-40 passenger party bus is an amazing tailgate ride. For overnight or long-distance trips (Ohio State and beyond), we recommend the motor coach for the reclining seats and restroom.
What about the Land Grant Trophy game vs Michigan State?+
When PSU-MSU is a road game, we run a coach package to East Lansing (~9 hrs) as an overnight trip. Traditionally a Thanksgiving-weekend rivalry, so plan around Thursday-Friday scheduling.
Do you handle bowl-game charters?+
Yes — as soon as the bowl bid is announced (usually early December), we finalize the destination trip. Popular bowl-game charter destinations: Peach Bowl (Atlanta), Rose Bowl (Pasadena), Fiesta Bowl (Glendale AZ). Fly-in packages standard.
Where does the coach park during the game?+
Every Big Ten stadium has designated bus parking. Your chauffeur stays with the coach in the bus lot or driver lounge and is staged at the post-game pickup zone as the final seconds tick off.
