The alumni-chapter road-trip business, explained
Drexel sits in the heart of University City — right next door to Penn, a short ride from Villanova / Saint Joseph's / La Salle / Temple. That's the Philadelphia Big 5, and now (with Drexel's inclusion in the annual round-robin) the Big 6. Every winter, Drexel plays home-and-home against every Big 5 school, and each game is a chartered fan-bus opportunity. Beyond the Big 6 rivalries, Drexel's basketball conference — the CAA (Coastal Athletic Association) — spans the East Coast: Delaware (Newark DE, ~40 min south), Hofstra (Long Island, ~3 hrs), Towson (Baltimore area, ~2 hrs), William & Mary (Williamsburg VA, ~5 hrs), Charleston (SC, fly-in), Elon (NC, ~7 hrs), Northeastern (Boston, ~5.5 hrs), UNC Wilmington, Hampton, Monmouth, Stony Brook, Campbell, NC A&T. Our CAA road charters run from short day trips (Delaware, Towson, Monmouth) to overnight coach packages (William & Mary, Northeastern) to fly-in trips (Charleston, Elon, UNC Wilmington). Drexel students and Bergen-area alumni are the main charter customers; smaller-scale than Temple/Villanova but the die-hard fan base still fills party buses and mini-coaches for the marquee CAA weekends.

Schedule confirmed as of August 2026 via Drexel Athletics and CAA release. Palestra date confirms when the Big 5/Big 6 city series is finalized. The Monmouth (Jan 14), Hofstra (Jan 16), Towson (Jan 23), and Stony Brook (Jan 30) games are all viable Philly day trips — book a 25-passenger mini-coach or party bus for the student/alumni fan groups.
Marquee 2026-27 road-trip windows
- Jan 14-16 Jersey/Long Island doubleheader — the Monmouth-Hofstra swing is a perfect weekend fan-bus package. Day-trip both games or build a 3-day overnight staying near Hempstead.
- Jan 23 at Towson — the closest CAA road game after Monmouth. Motor coach from Drexel's Powelton campus, tailgate at SECU Arena parking, back for happy hour.
- Feb 4 at Northeastern (Boston) — the "old CAA rivalry" trip. Overnight in Cambridge or Back Bay, game at historic Matthews Arena.
- Feb 7 & Feb 11 North Carolina back-to-back road swing — Campbell (Sunday) followed by NC A&T (Thursday). Alumni chapters occasionally combine these into a single 5-day trip through the Carolinas.
- Penn at the Palestra (TBA) — the Big 5/Big 6 in-city rivalry. Under 15 minutes cross-city — party bus or mini-coach makes the pregame fun.
Which vehicle for your fan-bus trip
Right-sized fleet for every Dragons away-game group configuration:

40-56 Passenger Motor Coach
For alumni chapter overnight trips to William & Mary, Northeastern, or Hofstra. Reclining seats, restroom, under-coach storage, Wi-Fi.

18-32 Passenger Mini-Coach
The most-booked Drexel road configuration — right size for a fan group of 18-30, fits in urban campus bus lots (Delaware, Hofstra, Towson, Northeastern).

20-40 Passenger Party Bus
For Big 6 rivalry road games or Delaware day trips — 25-passenger party bus with LED lighting, cooler bars, premium sound. Great vibe for a student fan-bus rental.

10-14 Passenger Sprinter Van
VIP transport for a smaller alumni group, faculty group, or a season-ticket-holder foursome plus spouses. Mercedes Sprinter, leather captain's chairs.
Day-trip vs overnight — when does each make sense?
The rule of thumb: if the away venue is within a 3-hour one-way drive, we run it as a day trip. Pickup 3-4 hours before kickoff/tip-off, tailgate on-site, game, then curbside post-game pickup and back to Philly by midnight. Comfortable in a motor coach or mini-coach; a party bus works too for a shorter distance.
Beyond 3 hours one-way, we typically build an overnight package: coach leaves Philly on Friday, hotel block at the destination Friday night, tailgate + game Saturday, hotel Saturday night, back to Philly Sunday. This is the standard for Big Ten road trips (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin), long CAA trips (William & Mary, Northeastern), and any playoff/bowl-game destination. For anything 8+ hours or across the country, we shift to a fly-in configuration — your group flies commercial and we coordinate with partner operators at the destination airport for airport-to-stadium ground shuttle and back.
Tailgate + game-day flow
Pickup: 3-4 hours before kickoff/tip-off for a full tailgate window. For a 1pm start, that's typically 8:30-9:00am from Philly. Your group boards the coach with tailgate gear, coolers, food, portable grills; we load everything into the under-coach storage.
On the road: reclining seats, restroom, Wi-Fi, USB charging at every seat, premium sound if you booked a party bus. Your driver has the route, the lot assignment, and the gate number for the visiting-team bus lot.
At the venue: we drop your group at the tailgate lot, park in the designated bus zone, and your chauffeur stays with the vehicle in the driver lounge or the bus lot. The tailgate spread sets up on the party bus itself (perimeter seating doubles as bench space) or on the pavement next to the coach.
Post-game: chauffeur is staged at the designated curbside pickup zone before your group even reaches the gate — they've tracked the final seconds via app and are ready. Post-game crowd flow typically adds 15-30 minutes to the total pickup window.
Alumni chapter partnerships & recurring bookings
The biggest recurring customer segment for Dragons away-game charters is alumni chapters. If your Philadelphia-area Dragons alumni chapter books 3+ road games per season, we set up a season-long partnership: locked-in per-trip pricing (discounted vs one-off booking), dedicated coach and driver who know your pickup logistics, single point-of-contact at our dispatch, and priority booking for the marquee games (rivalry weekends, playoff/bowl trips, tournament weeks) that fill up early.
Common alumni chapter configurations: 40-56 passenger motor coach for the full-chapter trip, mini-coach for smaller chapters or officers-only games, party bus for a Big 6 in-city rivalry, Sprinter for a suite-level or hospitality-level executive trip. Ask about our chapter-partner pricing when you inquire — we build the season contract before the schedule drops.

Booking timeline
Book by mid-October for the December-March basketball season; CAA Tournament reserve 2 weeks before the seeding. Playoff / tournament / bowl-game trips are booked on 24-72 hour turnarounds after the seeding or matchup is announced — the earlier you book after the announcement, the better your seat price and hotel-block availability.
The general rule: rivalry-week and playoff games fill our fleet 3-4 months out; regular-season road games need 2-3 weeks minimum; last-minute fly-in trips can happen with 5-7 days notice depending on the destination airport partner availability.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you'd want to know before you book.
What's the most-booked Drexel road-game charter?+
Drexel-Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center — only 40 minutes down I-95, alumni chapters and student groups both run charters for this one every season. Second: Drexel-Hofstra as a Long Island day trip.
How does the Philadelphia Big 5/6 rivalry charter setup work?+
Drexel is now included in the annual round-robin (the historic Big 5 became a Big 6). Home-and-home format means Drexel plays every other Big 6 school twice per season — one home, one road. For road games at Villanova, Penn, Saint Joseph's, La Salle, and Temple, we run compact charters (party buses, mini-coaches) from Drexel campus out to the rival's arena.
Can Drexel students book a road-trip charter?+
Yes — we work with Drexel student organizations, Greek chapters, and the student booster club. Group leader coordinates seat sales; we handle the transport and return timing.
What's the typical CAA fly-in trip?+
Charleston (SC), UNC Wilmington, and Elon (NC) are all fly-in — the drive is 7+ hours and doesn't make sense for a game weekend. We coordinate with partner operators at the destination airport for airport-to-arena ground shuttle.
What's included in an overnight package?+
Coach transport, hotel-block coordination (we book with a partner hotel near the arena), pre-game and post-game shuttle, and driver hours-of-service compliance (2 drivers if needed for the drive). Your group handles their own meals; we handle the routing.
What about the CAA Tournament?+
The CAA Tournament (typically hosted in Washington DC in recent years) is a 4-day event — Drexel alumni chapters routinely book multi-day charter packages covering all Drexel games plus the semifinal/final.
Where does the coach park at the Palestra or Big 6 rival arenas?+
Every Big 6 arena has designated bus drop and staging zones. Your chauffeur handles the parking logistics; your group is dropped at the door and picked up curbside post-game.
Can we combine a Drexel road game with dinner beforehand?+
Absolutely. A 4-6 hour in-city Big 6 charter package includes pre-game dinner pickup — most groups do dinner at a University City restaurant, ride to the rival arena for tip-off, and post-game bars back at 30th Street.
