Christmas light tour charter buses in Philadelphia — the complete Delaware Valley guide

The Philadelphia region has one of the densest concentrations of destination-caliber Christmas light displays anywhere in the country. A Longwood Christmas at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square draws more than 300,000 visitors each holiday season. Peddler's Village in New Hope runs its Gingerbread Competition and Grand Illumination through the entire December run. Franklin Square hosts the Holiday Festival with the free Electrical Spectacle light show every 30 minutes. Christmas Village at LOVE Park brings a full German Christmas-market atmosphere to Center City. PECO Winterfest at the Please Touch Museum adds a family-friendly indoor-outdoor option for households with kids under 10. Ladew Manor lights across the state line in Monkton MD round out a weekend-drive-worthy circuit.

What ties all of these together for a chartered-transportation partner is one common problem: parking. Longwood uses timed-entry parking that fills weeks in advance for prime December weekends. Peddler's Village parking backs up onto Route 202 on Saturday evenings. Franklin Square is downtown Philadelphia parking — expensive, limited, and cold. Ladew Manor is a rural drive with limited overflow. For anything larger than a single family in one SUV, a chartered motorcoach with a driver who stays with the vehicle in the venue's designated coach lot is not a luxury — it's the only way to keep a group of 15 or 30 or 55 together, warm, and on schedule.

Philly Charters runs Christmas-light tour transportation across the Delaware Valley from mid-November through the last weekend of December. The bulk of our December fleet on any given Saturday evening is not party buses to Fishtown — it's 32 and 40 and 56-passenger motorcoaches parked at Longwood Gardens, Peddler's Village, and Franklin Square, engines idling, heat on, drivers standing at the door with a passenger manifest and a hot coffee. This is what we do every December.

The Delaware Valley Christmas-light venues we shuttle to every December

Here are the destinations that make up the December light-tour calendar for our Philadelphia region groups:

A Longwood Christmas at Longwood Gardens (Kennett Square PA). The signature Christmas-lights destination of the entire Delaware Valley. Half a million lights across the outdoor gardens, illuminated fountain shows, the Conservatory in full holiday floral bloom, live music in the Ballroom. Timed-entry tickets required; book at longwoodgardens.org 4–6 weeks in advance for prime December Saturday evenings. Our coach drops your group right at the visitor-center entrance, we park in the dedicated bus lot, and the driver stays with the vehicle for the 2–3 hour dwell.

Peddler's Village Gingerbread Competition & Grand Illumination (New Hope PA). The Grand Illumination lighting ceremony kicks off the season the day after Thanksgiving; Gingerbread Competition entries fill the shops through late December. Restaurants and bakeries stay open late for the light-tour crowd. Coach parking on the perimeter of the village; short walk to the illuminated shop-lined pathways. Great pairing with Longwood Gardens for a full-Saturday circuit if your group can handle the drive time.

Franklin Square Holiday Festival & Electrical Spectacle (Philadelphia Center City). Free-admission holiday festival with a spectacular free 30-minute Electrical Spectacle light show that runs every half-hour through the evening. Carousel, mini-golf, holiday beer garden. Right in Center City — pairs naturally with Christmas Village at LOVE Park for a downtown-lights evening.

Christmas Village at LOVE Park (Philadelphia Center City). German-market-style holiday village with 80+ vendor stalls, mulled cider, bratwurst, and handcrafted gifts. Modeled on the Christkindlmarkt in Nuremberg. Open through Christmas Eve. Chartered coaches drop at 15th and JFK; short covered walk to the market entrance.

PECO Winterfest at the Please Touch Museum (Philadelphia Fairmount Park). Indoor-outdoor family-focused holiday event with illuminated outdoor pathway plus indoor museum access. Best fit for family groups with kids under 10, elementary-school field trips, and multi-generational family reunions where the grandparents want indoor warmth.

Ladew Manor Christmas Lights (Monkton MD). A cross-state-line option for Delaware Valley groups willing to drive south — the historic Ladew Topiary Gardens transform into an illuminated evening walk through sculpted topiary and formal gardens. About 90 minutes from Center City Philadelphia; often pairs with a Baltimore Miracle-on-34th-Street lights loop for full-weekend charter groups.

Who books Delaware Valley Christmas light tours with us — and why

Our December light-tour clientele is very different from our NYE party-bus and weekend bar-crawl clientele. Here's who calls us for holiday-lights charters, and what problem we're solving for each:

Senior-living and assisted-living activity directors. The single largest segment of our December light-tour bookings. Activity directors at senior-living communities across Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, Delaware, and Camden counties book their December Longwood trip in September and October. The pain points they need us to solve: driver assists with boarding, wheelchair-lift where required, patient timing at every stop, driver stays with a warm bus so residents can return early if they get cold or tired, and a clean COI issued to the facility's insurance requirements. We handle all of these as standard practice.

Church fellowship and family-ministry groups. Church family-ministry directors and senior-fellowship leaders book December light tours as a fellowship activity — often a Longwood trip on the first Sunday of December, followed by a fellowship-hall meal back at the church. Multi-generational groups (grandparents, parents, teens, small children) benefit most from a full-size motorcoach where nobody has to drive on dark rural roads to Kennett Square in bad weather.

HOA and neighborhood-community associations. Suburban HOA social committees increasingly organize a December neighborhood outing to Longwood, Peddler's Village, or Franklin Square. Cost gets split across 40–50 households, the whole neighborhood arrives together, and the social connections built on the ride become the foundation for the rest of the HOA calendar. Popular in King of Prussia, West Chester, Wilmington, Cherry Hill, and Moorestown.

Elementary and middle-school field trips. PECO Winterfest at the Please Touch Museum and Franklin Square are the two Philadelphia-region light venues most often booked as school field trips. We provide school-approved motorcoaches, all-driver background checks documented, and split-billing (invoice the school, individual family fees collected via school payment system) if requested.

Family reunions and multi-generational holiday gatherings. Families that gather from 3–4 states for a Christmas week reunion often book one evening as a chartered Longwood or Peddler's Village outing so grandparents don't have to drive at night and out-of-town relatives don't need to navigate unfamiliar roads. Common pattern: family stays at a hotel in King of Prussia or Wilmington, chartered coach picks up at the hotel, runs the light tour, returns everyone to the hotel.

Corporate family-holiday events. Employers increasingly offer a December family-friendly outing as an alternative to (or alongside) the traditional corporate holiday party. A Longwood Gardens family evening or a Franklin Square + Christmas Village downtown loop with hot chocolate is a family-inclusive alternative that includes kids and spouses. We coordinate multiple pickup points across a Center City / KOP / Cherry Hill triangle so no employee family has to drive.

Brownies, Scouts, and youth-group holiday activities. Cub Scout dens, Brownie troops, church youth groups, and school clubs all book December light-tour outings. We fit our vehicle recommendation and driver assignment to the age of the group — smaller mini-coach for younger troops, full motorcoach for combined multi-troop events, background-checked drivers documented for youth-organization insurance requirements.

What makes a Christmas light-tour charter different from a party-bus charter

The vehicle, the driver, and the vibe are all fundamentally different from a Friday-night party-bus booking. Here's what to expect:

Motorcoach, not party bus. Party buses are LED-lit, perimeter-seated, and built for standing/dancing. Christmas-light tours use full-size motorcoaches with forward-facing reclining seats, overhead luggage racks, individual climate controls, onboard restroom, and a PA system for the driver or a tour guide to narrate along the way. Warm, quiet, and comfortable for a 4–6 hour evening with elderly or young passengers.

Restroom onboard. Every full-size motorcoach in our light-tour fleet has an onboard restroom. This matters a lot on the return trip from Kennett Square or New Hope — nobody wants to make an emergency stop at a gas station on dark rural roads with a bus full of tired kids or elderly relatives.

Driver stays with the vehicle at every stop. Our light-tour drivers stay parked in the venue's designated coach lot the entire time your group is inside. Bus stays running with the heat on. Anyone in your group who gets cold, tired, or overwhelmed can return to a warm seat early — we've had grandparents nap in the coach for an hour while their families walk the Longwood pathways.

PA system for driver or guide narration. Our motorcoaches have a working PA system so the driver (or a designated tour guide from your group) can share the story of each venue on the drive, point out neighborhood decorations along the way, or lead the group in Christmas carols on the ride home. Family groups often bring a printed songbook and use the PA for a group sing-along.

Kids can nap in seats between stops. The reclining seats and quiet ride mean young kids often nap between destinations on a multi-stop route. Overhead reading lights let the older kids read or use tablets. USB charging at every seat keeps devices alive.

Hot chocolate and non-alcoholic beverages welcome. Bring your own thermos of hot chocolate, hot cider, or coffee for the ride. Spill-proof travel mugs only (no open cups) on winding rural roads. Cookies, muffins, and light snacks are welcome. Alcohol is not permitted on our senior-group or family light-tour bookings — this is a fundamental differentiator from our NYE and party-bus fleet.

Wheelchair-lift and low-boarding options available on request. We operate wheelchair-lift-equipped motorcoaches and low-boarding mini-coaches specifically for senior-living, assisted-living, and mixed-mobility family groups. Reserve at least 10 days out so we can guarantee the equipped vehicle on your date.

Philadelphia region light-tour fleet options

These are the vehicles we most often dispatch on Christmas-light tour bookings.

Motorcoaches (40–56 passengers)

Under-coach luggage, onboard restroom, individual climate controls, PA system, DVD/Wi-Fi where equipped, reclining seats. The workhorse of December light-tour season. Right for full senior-living community outings, church fellowship groups of 40+, multi-generational family reunions, and HOA neighborhood tours. Wheelchair-lift equipped versions available on 10-day notice.

Executive mini-coaches (24–32 passengers)

Reclining seats, overhead luggage, quiet heated interior. Best for mid-size family groups, small church fellowship outings, and multi-stop loops through Center City (Franklin Square + Christmas Village at LOVE Park + PECO Winterfest) where a full 56-passenger coach is more than needed. Some 32-passenger mini-coaches in our fleet include onboard restrooms; ask when quoting.

Executive Sprinter vans (10–14 passengers)

Leather captain's chairs, individual climate, USB charging, tinted windows, heated interior. Right for immediate-family holiday-lights outings, small-group Longwood Gardens trips, and any multi-generational family that fits in one vehicle. No onboard restroom, so we route with a scheduled restroom stop for longer trips.

Low-boarding & wheelchair-lift coaches

Full-lift 40-passenger motorcoach and low-boarding 24-passenger mini-coach for senior-living groups with mobility devices. Reserve at least 10 days out. Driver secures mobility devices per DOT standards, assists with boarding, and knows the senior-group timing conventions (extra 10 minutes at every stop for boarding, longer dwell at each venue).

Longwood Gardens · A Longwood Christmas · Kennett Square PA

A Longwood Christmas is our #1 December booking — one coach, one warm ride, one price for the whole group.

A Longwood Christmas at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square runs mid-November through early January and is the marquee holiday-lights event of the entire Delaware Valley. Half a million lights, illuminated fountains, the Conservatory in full holiday bloom. The problem: parking is timed, the walk from the lot is long, and it's the coldest walk of your December if you drive yourself. We stage a 40 or 56-passenger motorcoach at your senior-living community, church, HOA clubhouse, or corporate campus, drop your group right at the visitor entrance, and stay parked in the coach lot with the heat on. Restroom onboard for the ride out and back, warm bus to return to after the walk. This is the trip families and senior-living activity directors ask us to run every year.

Christmas light tour booking questions we get every November

The questions Delaware Valley families, HOAs, and senior communities actually ask before they book.

How far in advance should we book a Christmas light tour bus?
For the three peak weekends before Christmas (early December through the Saturday before Christmas Eve) and for wheelchair-lift-equipped coaches, we recommend booking by November 15. Weekday tours (Tue/Wed evenings) usually have availability into mid-December. Longwood Gardens timed-entry tickets sell out separately at longwoodgardens.org — book those first, then call us to lock in the transportation.
Is the bus heated? Is there a restroom onboard?
Every full-size motorcoach in our light-tour fleet has a fully heated interior with individual climate controls and an onboard restroom for the ride to and from your destination. Mini-coaches (24–32 passenger) are heated but typically do not have onboard restrooms — we route those with a scheduled restroom stop. Executive Sprinter vans (10–14 passenger) are heated with no onboard restroom.
Can the driver stay with the bus at each stop so we have somewhere warm to return to?
Yes — this is standard on our Christmas-light tours. Driver keeps the coach parked in the venue's designated bus/coach lot with the heat on, so anyone in your group who gets cold, tired, or overwhelmed can return to a warm seat early. This is especially important for senior-living groups, family reunions with young children, and any tour with more than 45 minutes of walking at a single stop.
Do you have wheelchair-lift-equipped coaches?
Yes — we operate wheelchair-lift-equipped motorcoaches and low-boarding mini-coaches. Reserve at least 10 days out so we can guarantee the equipped vehicle for your date. Two common configurations: (1) full-lift 40-passenger motorcoach for larger senior-living groups with multiple mobility devices, or (2) low-boarding 24-passenger mini-coach for mixed-mobility family groups. Driver assists with boarding and secures mobility devices per DOT standards.
Can we bring hot chocolate, snacks, or cookies onboard for the ride?
Yes — non-alcoholic beverages and light snacks are welcome on Christmas-light tours. We ask that hot beverages be in spill-proof travel mugs (not open cups) for safety on winding roads to Longwood or Peddler's Village. Alcohol is not permitted on our senior-group or family light-tour bookings. If you want a beverage-included evening (mulled wine at Christmas Village at LOVE Park, for example), we can add a bar-service coordinator — ask when you quote.
Can you do a multi-stop route — Longwood, Peddler's Village, and Franklin Square in one evening?
Yes, though we usually recommend picking two stops for one evening rather than three. Longwood + Franklin Square is a common Saturday route (about 40 minutes between them). Peddler's Village + Franklin Square is another. Fitting all three in one night makes for a very long evening with limited time at each — most groups end up doing Longwood as its own dedicated trip and doing a Franklin Square + LOVE Park city-lights loop as a second outing.
What about pickup from Cherry Hill, Wilmington, or the Main Line?
Our light-tour service area covers the full Delaware Valley: Cherry Hill NJ, Wilmington DE, King of Prussia, West Chester, Bryn Mawr, Doylestown, and out to Reading PA. Out-of-town mileage is itemized on your quote — common pattern is pickup at a suburban senior-living community, drop at Longwood Gardens (Kennett Square PA), return to origin. Weekend Longwood trips from Cherry Hill or Wilmington are among our most-booked December routes.
Is there a minimum for a Christmas-light tour charter?
Yes — our December light-tour bookings have a 3-hour minimum on mini-coaches and full-size motorcoaches (4-hour minimum on wheelchair-lift-equipped coaches to account for boarding time). Sprinter vans have a 2-hour minimum. Most single-stop Longwood trips run 4–5 hours door-to-door depending on pickup location and Longwood dwell time; two-stop routes typically run 5–6 hours.
Peddler's Village · Franklin Square · PECO Winterfest · LOVE Park

Multi-stop Delaware Valley light-tour routes — Peddler's Village, Franklin Square, Christmas Village at LOVE Park.

The most-requested multi-stop holiday route runs Peddler's Village Gingerbread Competition & Grand Illumination (New Hope PA) → Franklin Square Holiday Festival & Electrical Spectacle light show → Christmas Village at LOVE Park (German-market style, mulled cider, gift stalls). Add PECO Winterfest at the Please Touch Museum for family groups with kids under 10. One mini-coach or 32-passenger coach handles the whole loop; driver stays with the vehicle at every stop; group boards a warm bus at every re-entry. Perfect for HOA neighborhood outings, church fellowship groups, and multi-generational family reunions.
